I've made a LOT of different recipes for sandwich bread and they're either too dry, too crumbly, or just don't taste right. This recipe is by far my absolute favorite. Y'all have been loving it too, so I thought I'd share it here!
Equipment:
- 2 glass loaf pans
- stand mixer with dough hook (or a bowl)
- bowl for rising
- plastic wrap or flour towel
Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water (not too hot)
- 2 packets active yeast
- 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp organic sugar
- 1 Tbsp pink Himalayan salt
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1/4-1/2 stick organic melted butter (depends on your preference, I would start with less)
- 7 Cups organic flour
Instructions:
- Dissolve yeast and 1 Tbsp sugar in a stand mixer bowl with the warm water. Let bloom (about 10 mins).
- Add remaining sugar, salt, eggs, and butter to the bowl and mix to combine.
- Add 3 cups of flour to the bowl, using the dough hook, mix until incorporated. Add remaining flour 1 cup at a time until combined.
- Knead in mixer for about 5 minutes until dough is smooth.
- Remove from the bowl and knead by hand for about 5 minutes until elastic and smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour). Punch down the dough
- Divide and shape into two loaves. Place each loaf in a greased loaf pan and cover. Let rise about an hour until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375º F and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 5 mins. Rub the tops of the bread with butter an remove from pan to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting.
