New Year, New Me

New Year, New Me

This might sound cliché because it seems everyone says the same thing every year. Most of the time people make New Years resolutions to lose weight, be healthy, follow the new fad diet, etc. And most of the time people only do it for a week or so and then fizzle out and forget about it. I'm guilty of doing this too. But, this year is different. This year I'm not quitting. This year is about me, my health. I've sat back and taken advantage of my health for so long, and now that I'm sick, I kick myself for not taking action sooner. My lab test, specialist and hospital visits have scared me. It's gotten to the point where I pray every night that God heals my body and that I don't have to feel the way I do anymore.

It's sad that it took hitting rock bottom to motivate me. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. So goals for this New Year are simple. I want to be healthy. It may seem like a simple goal but I've come to realize it's a lot more complicated than what it seems. Being healthy to me isn't just having normal blood levels, it's a mental and physical challenge as well. Having a healthy lifestyle is my goal. Which is why I decided to do the Paleo lifestyle. I don't say Paleo diet because the word "diet" seems to have a negative connotation. Being Paleo is all about making lifestyle changes. At first I had no idea what Paleo even meant. It finally started to make sense when I did more research about it.

The idea behind Paleo is the fact that as humans, we weren't genetically made to digest foods like grains and dairy. No wonder so many people in today's world have allergies to these foods or digestive problems. It focuses on eating lean meats, fresh fruits and fresh veggies. Eating whole raw foods is what our body was meant for! I read a few medical case studies about how celiac disease was related to hyperthyroidism. Living a Paleo lifestyle helps reduce autoimmune diseases and so much more.

It's only been two days since I started this lifestyle and I already feel a difference! Today I had some major sugar withdrawal and had a headache ALL DAY, but after pushing through, I feel so much better. I'm so excited and hopeful with this new journey.

Another aspect of Paleo is to live an active lifestyle. This is probably the most challenging part for me. I'm always tired and after chasing the twins all day, all I want to do is sit and do NOTHING. But yesterday, I was so proud of myself because I took the boys for a walk and did lunges, push ups and even jogged a little! Im feeling it today, but it was so worth it. I can't wait to see how this affects my life in the long run. I pray that this helps with my health and wellness overall. Oh and the best part? I get to eat sweets too! As long as they are Paleo of course...haha

I know you can reach your 2017 goals if you're determined! Here's to an amazing year and many blessings to come!
